The McHenry County Historical Barn Preservation Association is
a preservation group focusing our efforts on saving the historic barns of McHenry County. The Association was
formed in 1997 in response to the "need" to protect and preserve McHenry County barns from encroachment of
insensitive development and urban sprawl. McHenry County barns are significant in that McHenry County was
once the dairy capital of the midwest. Our barns are the architecture that housed the dairy operations which
allowed McHenry County to prosper. Saving our barns means saving our heritage.
The McHenry County Historical Barn Preservation Association is a 501C3 not-for-profit organization with 11 Board
positions and approximately 90 members.
